Text Summarizer
Condense long text into a short summary, bullet points or key takeaways.
About the Text Summarizer
The Text Summarizer condenses long text into a form you can read in seconds. Paste an article, report, email thread or set of notes, then choose a format: a short paragraph, bullet points, a single sentence, or key takeaways with action items.
The summary uses only what is in your text. It is a quick way to get the gist and decide what to read in full, but it can miss detail, so check anything important against the original.
Who it's for
- Students and researchers skimming articles and reports.
- Busy professionals catching up on long emails and documents.
- Writers and editors who need a quick overview before they edit.
- Anyone who wants the key points of a long text without reading all of it.
How to use it
- Paste the text to summarize. The limit is 10,000 characters.
- Choose a format for the summary.
- Add what to focus on if you only care about part of it, such as costs or deadlines.
- Click Generate and read the summary.
- Check any figures or decisions against the original before you rely on them.
Tips for better results
- Choose Key takeaways and action items for emails and meeting material. Choose Short paragraph for articles.
- Use the focus box to pull out only what you need, for example "what changed in the new policy".
- For a very long text, summarize one section at a time, then combine the results.
- A summary can leave out important caveats. When the details matter, read the original.
- For PDF files, use the PDF Summarizer, which reads the file directly.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate are the summaries?
They stay close to your text, and the tool is told not to add outside facts. But a summary can leave out detail or stress the wrong thing, so check anything important against the original.
How long a text can I summarize?
Up to 10,000 characters at a time, which is roughly several pages. For longer documents, split the text into sections.
Can I summarize a PDF or a web page?
For PDFs, use the PDF Summarizer. For a web page, copy the text and paste it here.
Does it keep my text?
The text is sent to an AI service to write the summary and is not saved by this site. Avoid pasting confidential material you wouldn't want processed that way.
