AI PDF Summarizer
Upload a PDF and get a clear summary, key points or a section-by-section breakdown.
About the AI PDF Summarizer
The AI PDF Summarizer reads an uploaded PDF and writes a summary in the format you choose: a short paragraph, bullet points, key takeaways with action items, or a detailed section-by-section breakdown. Page numbers are included where they help you find a point in the original.
It works on PDFs that contain real, selectable text, up to 5 MB and the first 50 pages. Scanned images aren't supported yet. A summary is a way to decide what to read closely, not a replacement for reading anything important.
Who it's for
- Students and researchers skimming papers and reports.
- Professionals reviewing contracts, proposals and policies before reading in detail.
- Managers who need the key points of a long document quickly.
- Anyone with a long PDF and little time.
How to use it
- Click Choose file and select a text-based PDF.
- Pick a summary format.
- Add what to focus on, such as "risks and deadlines", if you like.
- Click Generate. Large files can take up to a minute.
- Use the page numbers to check the important points in the original.
Tips for better results
- Make sure the PDF has selectable text. If you can't highlight words in it, it is probably a scan.
- Use Section by section for structured documents, and Key takeaways for reports and memos.
- Use the focus box for a specific question, such as "payment terms".
- For legal, medical or financial documents, read the original. A summary isn't advice.
- To ask follow-up questions about the same file, use Chat with PDF.

Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF stored?
No. The file is read while your request is handled and isn't kept by this site. Its text is sent to an AI service to produce the summary.
What size and length does it support?
Files up to 5 MB. Only the first 50 pages, and up to about 40,000 characters of text, are used. You are told when a document was cut.
Why did it say it couldn't find any text?
The PDF is probably a scan or an image, which has no selectable text. Scanned PDFs aren't supported yet. Try a PDF exported from a document or a website.
Can I summarize a password-protected PDF?
No. Remove the password first. PDFs that only restrict editing usually open normally.
